Now that you have your braces or
orthodontic appliances, its important to remember that its your
responsibility to make them perform as intended. The success of
orthodontic treatment depends largely on how well you follow the
doctor's instructions. When we give you an estimate of the time
required to complete treatment and of the fees for this care, we
assume your full cooperation. Poor compliance will extend the time you have to wear braces.
Most orthodontic appliances do
not interfere with your active lifestyle, but you should consider a
few helpful hints to ensure that they maintain their function and
that they perform as planned. Take time to learn how to take
care of them and your teeth during
treatment. Broken appliances or lost retainers can
set the treatment progress back significantly, and they cost
additional time and money to repair or replace.
Knowing how braces work and the names of
parts and components of your orthodontic appliances is important to
you , because it helps you understand the treatment better. It also
helps us to communicate if there are problems or emergencies.
Please help us to keep your treatment as
short and comfortable as possible by avoiding certain
foods that may
damage your appliance. Also, certain habits, such as chewing on
pencils can affect treatment progress.
True orthodontic
emergencies are very
rare, but when they occur we are available to you. Please remember:
you should call the office when you experience pain or when you have
an appliance problem that you can't take care of yourself. We’ll
schedule an appointment to resolve the problem.
